Testing and Deployment

Velocity Wind Full Scale Prototype Testing in Austin Texas
Full Scale Prototype Testing

Our wind turbine designs are first tested in a controlled, small scale environment. This enables us to test various wind turbine blade configurations, vary wind velocity, and electrical load conditions in order to achieve the best possible design before full scale deployment.

We have also partnered with the University of Texas at Austin for several research and testing projects. For larger scale testing, we can either use our laboratory facilities atop one of our 5-story buildings in north central Austin, Texas, or we can access the wind tunnel at the nearby J.J. Pickle Research Campus.

Once a design is deemed ready for deployment, we install it and further test it in real-time on top of a 5 story building, alongside the building’s 225KW solar installation. Our main laboratory is also prewired to utilize various inverter types and other wind instrumentation.

Then, during the deployment phase, instrumentation gathers data for the specific wind turbine’s performance analysis under these full-scale, real world-testing conditions.
